Thomas Dolby was a synth pioneer back in the 80’s. You probably remember “She Blinded Me With Science”. Back when synthesizers cost thousands of dollars, Thomas would solder pieces together to create new sounds.
Fast forward to 2010 and for many years now, we have all these expensive synths and effects available in software packages like Reason.
In this video from Kepler Speakers, Thomas talks about having to improvise with technology being at the core of creativity and invention.
This might sound a little like the “Back in my day….two feet of snow” rap, but I think he does make a point.

Jimi Hendrix – Little Wing is such a great song and so unique to Jimi’s style. You might think that any attempt to play it by anyone else would fall short.

Ok, so I finally put up some tabs/chords. Yes! One whole song so far. Hey, it’s a start.
I was listening to Elton John’s “Levon” from  his 1971 “Madman Across the Water” album.
This song uses some nice chords that translate well to guitar. It is a PDF file so you will need  Adobe Reader. (Let me know if you have any problems with it)

I always wondered what these lyrics were about and according to straightdope.com…
Gus Dudgeon, who produced Madman Across the Water and wrote an essay containing this information to accompany the remastered version, the name “Levon” was inspired by Levon Helm, drummer, lead singer, and founder of The Band, a group from the 60s and 70s. The Band was apparently Elton John’s and Bernie Taupin’s favorite group in those days. (Taupin is the guy who writes or co-writes a lot of Elton John’s songs and who wrote the lyrics for “Levon.”)

Greg Koch is in my opinion (and allot of other people) one of the best guitar players in the world.
He is playing through a Fender G-DEC3 amp.
The G-DEC comes with 99 or so backing tracks in the amp (including a few from Greg). It also comes with version of Live 8 software so you can make your own backing tracks to upload to the G-DEC. Very cool.
